My review:

Six Stories, I have to say is one of the most original books I have read for quite some time. The complex plot stands head and shoulders above those of so many other books. It snakes itself across the pages in a complex weave that has you absorbed in no time at all, savouring each beautifully constructed sentence. This book will have you rearranging the order of your ‘Favourite Books’ and it will, without a doubt, be proudly and deservedly at Number 1.

In 1997 the body of fifthteen-year-old Tom Jefferies is found in the marshes beneath Scarclaw Fell. An area of outstanding natural beauty is now tainted with tragedy. What follows is an investigation which delves deeply into Tom’s personal life – his history, family, friends, the group he belongs to – but the investigation’s verdict is misadventure. A blameless and devastating accident.

In 2017 Scott King, an intriguing and mystifying investigative journalist, whose pod casts explore interesting crimes, digs into Tom Jefferies story. And in a series of six interviews, eradicates the questions of the case and brings to light the dark and frightening truths that have been lying hidden for years with Tom beneath the marshes.

In Six Stories suspense and tension abounds. The first chapter I found to been quite eerie and chilling but as the story progressed as did a deep-seated fear which seeps into your bones and wreaks havoc with your sense of calm. Chocolate is essential!

Matt Wesolowski’s writing is superb. I found myself rereading a few paragraphs to fully absorb just how beautifully written they are. The narrative in this book masterfully reflects the originality and inventiveness emanating from the plot. Amazing.

The characters are some of the most rich and interesting I have read! And Nanna Wrack – wow! I think she is my favourite!

Within the first few pages, Six Stories lays claim on your thoughts and forces you into a state of perpetual enthrallment. And by the end… Well, you’ll have to wait and see…

Blowing between past and present, legends and reality twirl a deadly dance with one another in this haunting tale of ethereal darkness and mystery.

I urge you to read this incredible book! I can’t WAIT for more from Matt!

A little bit about the author:

Matt Wesolowski is an author from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK. He is an
English tutor and leads Cuckoo Young Writers creative writing workshops for young
people in association with New Writing North. Matt started his writing career in
horror and his short horror fiction has been published in Ethereal Tales magazine,
Midnight Movie Creature Feature anthology, 22 More Quick Shivers anthology and
many more. His debut novella The Black Land, a horror set on the Northumberland
coast, was published in 2013 and a new novella set in the forests of Sweden will be
available shortly. Matt was a winner of the Pitch Perfect competition at Bloody
Scotland Crime Writing Festival in 2015. He is currently working on his second crime novel Ashes, which involves black metal and Icelandic sorcery.
