The Eyes of the Accused

Fresh from the horrors of their last case, private investigators Ben and Maddie are plunged into a disturbing world of terror as they search for missing pregnant girl, Hannah Heath.

Drawn to Frank Crowley, a suspect in Hannah’s disappearance, Maddie is about to come face to face with true evil. As she gets close to Crowley, Maddie will learn all is not what it seems.

Crowley is just a small part of something much larger. Something so terrible and deranged, it defies reason.

When Maddie disappears, Ben is left in a desperate race against time to find her and uncover the truth.

But can Ben and Maddie both survive this time?

My Review:

The Eyes of the Accused is the second book in the Ben Whittle Investigation series. I haven’t read the first but after this fantastic book, I certainly plan to. The Eyes of the Accused can be read as a standalone, but  I’d recommend reading The Revelation Room first just to give you a slightly better understanding of the characters and their back stories. This is a fast-paced, intriguing and at times chilling novel that will set your teeth on edge.

I enjoyed this novel SO much. Despite having not read the first book, I haven’t ever before been so wholeheartedly drawn into a set of characters’ lives so fast and with such force. The Eyes of the Accused is a gripping and addictive thriller that has surpassed all my expectations. With a very fresh set of characters and a plot to shock you I think this book is a standout read.

“Hannah Heath knew she was dying. Her head felt strangely detached from her body, as if it might float away at any moment like a helium balloon. A strip light blinked above her. Perhaps a mothership come to take her home.”

Private Investigator Ben Whittle, along with his friend Maddie and father Geoff are asked to investigate the disappearance of  young woman Heather Heath. Heavily pregnant with her first child, Hannah’s life and that of her baby rest in their hands.
But as they delve deeper into the mystery, a new and frightening kind of evil rises up to meet them.

There is something quite lovely about the dynamic of these characters. I loved their investigative business and the way they bounced off of each other. I found myself being consumed by Ben and Maddie’s growing relationship, and rooting for them to admit their feelings for one another. Geoff although quite obstinate is funny and intriguing.  I can’t wait to read more of their investigations!

The Eyes of the Accused is a reverting tale that will hold you glued to the pages with its gripping plot, a narrative which seamlessly melds darkness with humour and a macabre killer to chill your soul.

Dark. Humerous. Brilliant.

Mark lives in a small village in the lovely county of Cumbria, although his books are set in Oxfordshire where he was born and raised.

After serving in the Royal Navy and raising his two daughters after being widowed, Mark finally took the plunge and self-published two books on Amazon, The Revelation Room and The Eyes of the Accused.

He’s always had a keen interest in writing, and is extremely proud to have his third novel, The Abattoir of Dreams, published, and The Revelation Room and The Eyes of the Accused re-launched, by Bloodhound Books.

When he’s not writing, Mark can be found trying and failing to master blues guitar,
and taking walks around the beautiful county of Cumbria.
