M. Jonathan Lee
‘Family curses don’t exist. Sure, some families seem to suffer more pain than others, but a curse? An actual curse? I don’t think so.’
A family tragedy was the catalyst for Ian Perkins to return to the isolated cottage with his wife and young son. But now they are back, it seems yet more grief might befall the family.
There is still time to act, but that means Ian must face the uncomfortable truth about his past. And in doing so, he must uncover the truth behind the supposed family curse.
I’m thrilled to be able to post my review today for such a fantastic book. I was so excited when I received my review copy through the post. And I haven’t been disappointed! Broken Branches is superb – thoroughly recommend!
Ian Perkins returns to his old home with his wife and young son in the wake of a recent tragedy. Ian’s childhood is marred with horror and pain, so much so that the repercussions are still rippling through his life. As he tries to mend the fissure that has developed between him and his wife, he delves into his family history, to where a supposed curse has haunted his family for generations.
Although I wouldn’t say this was horror, it definitely has a creepy element to it. A dark, intense novel with underlying tones of menace, there are some scenes within that are very emotional. Ian’s plight to grasp the truth from the past is a journey that is deep and at times heartbreaking. With its themes of grief, relationships and family, this novel left a huge impression on me.
With vivid descriptions and a supernatural feel to it, Broken Branches was a fabulous read to get stuck into on the beach. Intriguing and suspenseful. Creepy and intense. Brilliant!
