Welcome to my spot on the blog tour! I’m over the moon to be able to post my review today for this superb novel!
The Marriage Pact
Newlyweds Alice and Jake are a picture-perfect couple. Alice, once a singer in a well-known rock band, is now a successful lawyer. Jake is a partner in an up-and-coming psychology practice. Their life together holds endless possibilities. After receiving an enticing wedding gift from one of Alice’s prominent clients, they decide to join an exclusive and mysterious group known only as The Pact.
The goal of The Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense. Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. . . .
Never mention The Pact to anyone.
Alice and Jake are initially seduced by the glamorous parties, the sense of community, their widening social circle of like-minded couples.
And then one of them breaks the rules.
The young lovers are about to discover that for adherents to The Pact, membership, like marriage, is for life. And The Pact will go to any lengths to enforce that rule.
For Jake and Alice, the marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.
When The Marriage Pact arrived in the post, I was so excited to begin reading. I picked it up, had a quick flick through, read the press release and then a few hours later, I was half way through. Creepy, thrilling, suspenseful, this novel had me gripped from beginning to end.
Newlyweds Alice and Jake are happy and in love. When they return from their honeymoon, they are visited by a woman who offers them a chance to join a mysterious club, whose members go through a rigorous selection process before they are allowed to join. Inside the club divorce is unheard of and a harmonious, balanced marriage is the ultimate goal. Seduced by the promise of parties and a marriage that will never slip into disarray, they join the club. But the promise of happiness, is nothing compared to the consequences that will await them if they break the rules of The Pact.
Alice is impulsive and prone to jealousy and Jake is possessive. Neither are perfect but I think that was what made them so enjoyable to read about. They’re likable and realistic. And the journey they go on as they navigate the frightening world they have entered into is something that is equally shocking and surprising. The cult aspect to this novel is fantastic. The animosity and threat that suffuses this book completely blew me away.
Cleverly plotted and brilliantly written, this is fantastic! I fully recommend. A chilling, mysterious, edge-of-your-seat novel that begs the question of how far you’d go to protect your marriage.
Suspenseful. Tense. Clever.
