Welcome to my spot on the blog tour today! I’m thrilled to share my review of this fabulous book!
Crime reporter Henning Juul thought his life was over when his young son was murdered. But that was only the beginning…
Determined to find his son’s killer, Henning doggedly follows an increasingly dangerous trail, where dark hands from the past emerge to threaten everything. His ex-wife Nora is pregnant with another man’s child, his sister Trine is implicated in the fire that killed his son and, with everyone he thought he could trust seemingly hiding something, Henning has nothing to lose … except his own life.
Packed with tension and unexpected twists, Killed is the long-awaited finale of one of the darkest, most chilling and emotive series you may ever read. Someone will be killed. But who?
In the final instalment in the Henning Juul series, Killed takes the reader deeper into the murky depths of a little boy’s death and his father’s hunt for the truth. Henning’s little boy, Jonas, tragically died in a fire that tore through the building, his father mere moments too late to save his life. Haunted by that dreadful tragedy, he is shocked to discover revelations that change his perception of what happened that day. Why was his sister spotted outside the building moments before the fire was started? Who is the mind behind this horrific act? And can Henning track him down? With his ex-wife pregnant with another man’s child, sister Trine somehow connected to his son’s death and men hunting him just as he hunts them, Henning walks an evermore dangerous tightrope, one on which death is a constant obstacle.
With the very first sentence, the reader is thrust straight into the action. Henning Juul sits in a boat with a man with a gun, between them lies a dead body wrapped in rubbish bags. His situation is bleak, the chance of salvation dissipating along with the very last ounce of hope. The prologue sets the tone for the rest of the book. Tense, thrilling, surprising. It almost begins to feel as if a cat and mouse game is playing out between Henning and his foes and, as you’ll see, it makes for a thrilling read.
I love Henning as a character. I think his love for poor Jonas summersaults off the pages, drawing the reader into his world. The loss of a child is so many people’s worst nightmare and many more’s crushing reality – it’s hard to imagine what a parent would go through but Thomas Enger has captured the emotion in Henning’s pain and plight for the truth exquisitely. And not only has he coloured Henning’s grief with heartrending detail, he has described Nora’s loneliness beautfully. His writing is sublime.
Fast-paced and so very tense, Killed is a sparkling finale to the Henning Juul series. Flick through the pages and witness Henning delve into the mystery and discover the shocking truth. This is a dazzling book, scored through with twists and turns that finally proffers Henning the answers he seeks! Superb! Thomas Enger is such a talented author! I was gripped!
Dark. Chilling. Emotive.
