This is a story about a married couple. They met, fell in love, had two beautiful children. So far, so ordinary.
But they have a very dark secret.
It’s a story with a twist. And then another. And another.
You might think you’ve read stories like this before.
You’d be wrong.
By the end of the first chapter you’ll be hooked.
At page fifty you might not sleep until you finish.
And when you turn the last page, you’ll ask yourself one question:
How well do you really know the person you love most?
Millicent and her husband live with their two teenage children in the suburb of Hidden Oaks. She is an estate agent, working her way up the ranks. He is a pro tennis teacher with a strong list of clientele. Although they have their struggles and stresses, they are comfortable and able to support one another. Their story starts like many others: they fell in love, married, had children and settled down. But this is where the similarities end. Millicent and her husband share a grim secret. Something that keeps their marriage alive.
When a serial killer arrives in their small town, an uproar ensues. It is all anyone talks about. The news broadcasts terrifying details about the case, rumours abound and fear begins to spread along the streets. For Millicent’s young daughter, Jenna, nowhere feels safe. The arrival of this person and subsequent murders of multiple young women have rocked her to the core. The bright, smiley girl she was has gone. Their family is being affected hard by the arrival of this killer.
My Lovely Wife is such a shocking, grizzly book. As some of you might know, I like my books very dark and the characters completely nuts so I was instantly draw to this and I couldn’t have asked for more. The writing is sharp and punchy. The characters are depraved but also fascinating and compelling. Both Millicent and her husband are without a doubt wretched people but this is definitely a case of one being the lesser of two evils.
The reader knows straight away that they are bad people but it’s only as you begin to read, you see how tangled the web is, how deliciously dark they are. I won’t say anything else as I don’t want to give anything a way. The plot unravelled with lots of twists to keep the reader inching closer and closer to the page. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing how it all played out so much. What a ride!
Tense. Thrilling. Addictive.
